UNDER THE SUN

Under the sun: Knowing your skin type
Even if the sun is synonymous with heat and well-being, poorly prepared, sun exposure can cause many inconveniences: it is especially sunburn, allergy or "heat stroke". In the longer term, excess sun can have much more serious effects: premature aging of the skin and development of skin cancer (melanoma).
Appropriate sun protection is therefore essential to benefit only from the good sides of the sun. All skin types do not react in the same way to solar radiation, it is important to know your skin type. It is defined by color of skin, hair, tendency to sunburn and ability to tan.
Here is a table that will allow you to know your phototype:

Prevent sun allergies:
In some people, the first exposures to the sun most often cause skin allergies: small pimples and irritations on the neckline.
Generally, suitable sun protection with a sun cream with a high protection factor can prevent or reduce these problems.
You can also prepare your skin for the sun by starting a course of nutritional supplements 15 days before departure (2 tablets every day before, during and after your stay).
These nutritional supplements have other beneficial effects:
They have a pigmenting effect which allows you to expose yourself for less time for an equivalent tan.
They allow you to tan faster and more evenly.
They have a protective effect against premature aging of the skin.
They have a moisturizing effect that prevents skin dryness and prevents the skin from peeling after exposure.

10 lessons for a good tan:
The sun is essential to our existence for its metabolic, psychological and immunological effects, but it can also have harmful effects: reduction in the elasticity of the skin, formation of wrinkles, increased risk of skin cancer, burns.
Here are 10 lessons to take full advantage of the sun:
- Avoid exposing yourself between 12 and 4 p.m., when the sun's rays are most intense.
- During the first days, expose yourself gradually (no more than 3/4 hours a day) avoiding the motionless lying position.
- Apply your sun protection before going out in the morning. Reapply several times a day, especially after bathing (even though most sunscreen products are water resistant, they are not towel rub resistant!)
- Do not expose children before 6 months.
- Do not expose children under 3 years old to strong periods of sunshine. Protect them with maximum protection as well as clothing protection (wet clothing allows UV rays to pass through).
- Wear a hat and sunglasses capable of filtering UVA and UVB
- Beware of the risk of overexposure on reflective surfaces (snow, sand, water)
- Beware of false securities: altitude, clouds, wind, parasol.
- Wipe well after each bath. The water droplets have a "magnifying effect" which promotes sunburn.
- Drink lots of water and often. Especially the elderly and children.
If you notice a mole changing shape, size or color see your dermatologist.

Choosing the right sun protection:
Appropriate sun protection is essential to benefit only from the beneficial effects of the Sun without risking complications. Sunscreens are classified by Protection Index (IP), the higher the IP, the stronger the protection. The latest research has shown that UVA radiation is as harmful in the long term as UVB radiation. It is therefore necessary to choose protection with an index of protection as strong for UVA as for UVB.
The choice must take into account:
- your skin type (the whiter your skin, the stronger the protection must be)
- the conditions in which you will be exposed (the higher the intensity, the more the protection must be maximum: mountain, boat, tropical countries).
This table will help you choose the right sun protection for you:

GO TO THE MOUNTAIN

Mountain: How to protect the skin...
Winter sports expose the skin to extreme climatic conditions which does not fail to cause certain changes:
it quickly becomes dry and sensitive.
The face, lips and hands are particularly sensitive to the cold and the more intense sun
The drier the cold, the faster the skin dehydrates.
Wind, sun exposure, increased energy needs, lack of drink during the day are all aggravating factors.
This dryness results in irritation, scabs or redness, especially in children and people who already have dry or sensitive skin.
The use of creams will have a double interest: a role of screen against climatic aggressions and a role of thermal protector. They will be chosen moisturizing to delay evaporation and increase water supply.

The lips are particularly exposed:
they crack and peel on contact with the cold. Only one solution: protect them by applying a greasy protective balm.
The combination of sun and cold promotes the reappearance of cold sores (or "cold sores"), this risk can be prevented by using a stick containing a sunscreen.
Remember to use these sticks or balms from the first day to avoid the appearance of these symptoms.

The eye contour:
it is also a fragile area because the skin there is very thin and the eyes tend to tear up to face the wind and the cold. Use an eye cream every day.

Hands :
they redden and dry out causing chapping or even cracking, they must be moisturized daily with protective and nourishing creams.

Mountain: Choosing the right sun protection...
